Man arrested in Halle after assaulting women and setting apartment ablaze
A 50-year-old man has been arrested in Halle (Saale) after allegedly assaulting two women and setting fire to an apartment. Police responded quickly to the incident, detaining the suspect near the scene. Authorities have now launched criminal proceedings against him.
The altercation began when the suspect, an Iraqi national, physically attacked his wife and another female tenant. He reportedly threatened them with verbal abuse and brandished a knife. The victims, along with their son, managed to escape the apartment and immediately alerted the police.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a fire inside the apartment. Firefighters were called in and successfully extinguished the blaze. The suspect was apprehended nearby and taken to the central police detention facility for questioning. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Meanwhile, charges have been filed against the suspect for assault, threats, insult, and aggravated arson.
