Martin Horn wins Freiburg's mayoral race in decisive first-round victory

Freiburg's incumbent Lord Mayor will remain in office after Martin Horn won the mayoral election outright in the first round. According to preliminary final results, he secured 52.9 percent of the votes cast.

Monika Stein came in second with 29.6 percent, while Achim Wiehle took third place with 10.5 percent. Dejan Mihajlovic finished fourth with 2.5 percent, followed by the AfD's Karl Schwarz with 2.2 percent and Florian Braune of the Free Voters party with 1.3 percent.

Trailing behind were Claudio Probst of the Anarchist Pogo Party of Germany with 0.4 percent, Martin Borgmann of The Party (DIE PARTEI) with 0.3 percent, and student Wim Kölker with 0.1 percent. Miscellaneous votes accounted for another 0.1 percent.

A runoff election on May 17 will not be necessary.
