New Exhibition Reimagines Stasi Archive Through Student Architecture

Exhibition of Architectural Concepts for a Stasi Records Archive Opens at Roter Ochse Memorial, Halle (Saale)

On April 27 at 3:00 PM, the Roter Ochse Memorial in Halle (Saale) will open an exhibition showcasing architectural concepts for a new Stasi records archive.

How can architecture do justice to a place where history, violence, and renewal intersect? As part of their master's program in architecture, students at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences developed diverse designs for a Stasi records archive and the spatial integration of the Roter Ochse Memorial.

The exhibited works explore architectural approaches balancing preservation and transparency, institutional power and individual powerlessness. The exhibition is a collaboration between Anhalt University and the Association of German Architects (BDA). It comes against the backdrop of plans to close Halle Prison in the coming years.

From April 27 to July 17, 2026, visitors can view the exhibition during the memorial's opening hours. Admission is free.
