Fire in Attic of Residential Building in Refrath – No Injuries Reported
Massive attic fire disrupts Refrath after roofing work sparks blaze
Bergisch Gladbach (ots) On Friday afternoon, emergency services received a 112 call reporting a fire in the attic of a residential building in the Refrath district at around 11:30 AM. The incident took place on Wickenpfädchen Street.
Fire stations 1 and 2, fire engines from Refrath (Unit 10) and the city center (Unit 7), the incident command service (B-Duty), and an ambulance were dispatched to the scene.
Even en route, crews observed heavy smoke. Initial reports suggest the fire broke out during roofing work at a construction site. Multiple callers alerted emergency services via 112 about the attic blaze.
All residents of the affected house, as well as workers on-site, had safely evacuated the building before firefighters arrived.
Crews battled the flames from both inside and outside the structure while wearing breathing apparatus. The fire was quickly brought under control, though firefighters later had to locate and extinguish smoldering embers in the attic, requiring parts of the interior cladding to be carefully dismantled.
Wickenpfädchen Street was fully closed for the duration of the operation. Temporary traffic disruptions also occurred on Dolmanstraße due to the staging area set up for emergency vehicles.
The operation concluded at around 2:30 PM, with approximately 45 firefighters and paramedics involved in the response.
During the incident, the vacated fire stations 1 and 2 were staffed by crews from Units 6 and 9.
Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. (es)
