Massive Schopfheim fire draws 50 firefighters to blazing annex
A fire broke out in Schopfheim-Fahrnau on Saturday evening, drawing a large emergency response. Crews were called to Blasistraße at around 9:09 p.m. on May 2, 2026, after reports of a roof blaze. The incident escalated quickly, requiring nearly 50 firefighters to tackle the flames. The initial alert suggested a roof fire at a bicycle shop. But upon arrival, crews discovered a neighbouring annex fully ablaze, with flames spreading to the roof. Firefighters from Schopfheim and the nearby Raitbach district rushed to the scene with ten vehicles.
By 10 p.m., the blaze was under control and fully extinguished. One firefighter received medical attention for overexertion but soon returned to duty. Mop-up operations continued until midnight, with teams carefully checking the roof for lingering embers. Support came from paramedics, police, the Technical Relief Agency (THW), and a local utility provider. After the fire was out, investigators from the police and THW took over the site to determine the cause.
The fire’s origin remains unclear as authorities continue their investigation. Emergency services worked together to contain the blaze and secure the area. The incident highlights the rapid response of local crews in handling large-scale emergencies.
