Braunschweig unveils Hochspannungspark as a vibrant urban renewal milestone
Braunschweig will celebrate the opening of its newly redesigned Hochspannungspark on May 9, 2023. The inauguration marks a key moment for the city’s urban development, showcasing a flagship project under the 'Soziale Stadt – Donauviertel' initiative. Visitors can expect a day of activities, tours, and family-friendly entertainment as part of Germany’s nationwide Urban Development Funding Day. The day’s events will begin with a guided bike tour through the 'Soziale Stadt – Westliches Ringgebiet' redevelopment area, running from 10 AM to 12 PM. This tour offers a first look at ongoing urban improvements in the region.
At 12:30 PM, Dr. Thorsten Kornblum, Braunschweig’s mayor, will officially welcome guests to the Hochspannungspark inauguration. The park itself features a mix of relaxation zones, dynamic landscaping, and recreational facilities. These include a calisthenics station, a running track, and a wave slide, all designed for community use. After the ceremony, a lively afternoon programme will run until 4 PM. Attendees can enjoy a stage show, interactive exhibits, and hands-on activities for all ages. The event aligns with this year’s Urban Development Funding Day theme: 'Vibrant Spaces, Strong Communities'.
The Hochspannungspark now stands as a central part of Braunschweig’s urban renewal efforts. Its facilities and green spaces aim to serve residents of all ages. The inauguration also highlights the city’s commitment to creating engaging public areas through the 'Soziale Stadt' programme.
