Drunk man wields knife at German festival before police chase
A 28-year-old man disrupted Northeim’s spring festival after pouring beer over attendees and threatening a bystander with a knife. Police arrived quickly, but the suspect initially tried to escape on foot before being caught.
The incident began when the man, heavily intoxicated, started pouring beer over festival-goers. His blood alcohol level was later measured at around 1.3 per mille.
At some point, he pulled a knife from a crossbody bag and threatened to kill a bystander. When officers reached the scene, he attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended. The suspect was taken to Northeim Police Station and held overnight in custody. Authorities have launched an investigation into the attack and are urging anyone who witnessed the event to come forward.
The man remains in custody as police gather more details about the incident. Witness statements and further evidence will help determine the next steps in the case.
