Massive fire at Wehr Landfill contained after hours of firefighting
A large fire broke out at the Wehr Landfill in the Lachengraben district on Saturday, May 2, 2026. The blaze was first reported at around 12:11 PM, prompting a swift response from multiple emergency services. Firefighters worked for hours to bring the situation under control.
The fire began in an area containing bulky waste and quickly posed a risk of spreading to a nearby storage hall. Crews from Wehr, Bad Säckingen, Schwörstadt, Rickenbach, and Dossenbach arrived to tackle the flames. Their rapid action prevented the fire from reaching the hall.
Paramedics, police, and the German Red Cross also arrived to support the operation. Local businesses contributed by supplying water and other essentials to assist the firefighting efforts. Coordination between the different districts was smooth and well-managed, ensuring an efficient response. The fire was eventually contained, but extinguishing it took several hours. Operations concluded at around 9:14 PM. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause, though no findings have been confirmed yet.
The incident saw no reports of injuries, and the storage hall remained unharmed. Emergency teams have since left the site, but investigations into the fire’s origin are ongoing. The collaboration between services and local businesses helped bring the situation to a safe resolution.
