Mexico's PRI backs Chihuahua governor amid surging cartel violence
Alejandro Moreno, national president of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), expressed solidarity with Chihuahua Governor Maru Campos amid attacks from Morena and stated that combating drug cartels does not undermine sovereignty.
"Chihuahua faces brutal pressure from organized crime due to its border location. There is no room for hesitation. What is needed is intelligence, coordination, and resolve to make decisions that protect the people."
In a post on social media, he argued that "cooperating to fight organized crime does not weaken sovereignty—it strengthens it. Sovereignty is exercised by defending life, security, and the peace of mind of families. It is reinforced when the state demonstrates control and determination."

In the PRI, we are clear: We will support any action that strengthens the rule of law and takes territory away from criminals. Security is not rhetoric—it is a responsibility and an obligation.
History will judge each of us accordingly. We will stand on the side of the law, on the side of victims, and on the side of families who demand to live without fear. There can be no negotiation with crime. It must be confronted and defeated.
