Mikie Sherrill assembles her transition team with loyalists and veterans
Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill has begun building her administration, retaining several members from the previous Democratic administration and naming key figures to her transition team. This follows a 64-year tradition set by Democrat Richard Hughes in 1953.
Sherrill has retained Alfred Driscoll's Commissioner of Education, Frederick Raubinger, and Robert Meyner's Commissioner of Health, Roscoe Kandle, from the previous administration. She has also named Lt. Gov.-elect Dale Caldwell as chair of her transition team. Caldwell, who is the president of Centenary University and a former deputy commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs, will be close to power in the new administration.
Kellie Doucette has been named as the executive director of Sherrill's transition team. Doucette played a key role in Sherrill's 2018 congressional campaign and served as her district director for nearly six years. This appointment marks a continuation of the team that helped Sherrill secure her current position.
Sherrill's transition team is shaping up to be a blend of experienced and loyal personnel, with a balance of continuity and new leadership. The team's composition reflects Sherrill's commitment to building on the strengths of the past while forging her own path as the first governor in 64 years to run an intra-party transition.
