Eichendorff School celebrates topping-out of €10M expansion project
Eichendorff School has marked a key milestone in its expansion with a topping-out ceremony for the new building. The event brought together local politicians, construction workers, parents, and students to celebrate progress on the €10 million project. Construction began in summer 2025, with completion expected by 2027. The extension adds around 1,100 square meters of floor space, replacing the old caretaker’s house with a two-story solid structure. A new single-story connecting building will also link parts of the school. Plans include a fresh main entrance, a larger cafeteria, expanded administrative offices, and updated classrooms and multipurpose rooms.
During the ceremony, construction supervisor Andreas Dieterich gave the traditional topping-out speech. Mayor Christian Bommers then addressed the crowd, outlining the benefits of the expanded school. Once finished, the site will accommodate three classes per grade level and support modern teaching approaches. Headteacher Simone Samp acknowledged the challenges of managing daily school life amid ongoing construction. Despite disruptions, the project remains on track for its 2027 completion date.
The renovation and expansion aim to provide better facilities for students and staff. With more space and improved infrastructure, Eichendorff School will offer an enhanced learning environment. The total investment of approximately €10 million reflects the project’s scale and ambition.
