Moscow's Victory Day event unites generations through wartime memories and film

A patriotic event dedicated to Victory Day on May 9 was held at Moscow's Victory Museum Square. Participants included representatives from the Sverdlovsk Region Governor's Office, the Ural Land Regional Public Organization, and Ural-born students studying at Moscow universities. A screening of the documentary Blockade: Always With Me was organized for them.

At the opening, Andrei Tsykun, the permanent representative of the Sverdlovsk Region governor to the Russian president, addressed the crowd.

"Victory is a personal story for every family and the foundation of our nation's strength," he said. "We must preserve the memory of our heroes' valor and pass it on to future generations as a moral compass and an example of service to Russia. The Urals have always stood—and continue to stand—at the forefront of defending the Motherland, where the fate of the country is decided."

Victoria Bazhenova, the creator of Blockade: Always With Me, also spoke to the attendees. She explained that the film is based on the memories of those who endured the Siege of Leningrad as children. For the people of the Urals, this history holds special significance.

During the Great Patriotic War, the Middle Urals became a vital rear base for the country. Evacuated factories, millions of tons of military supplies, and the selfless labor of workers, engineers, women, and teenagers made a decisive contribution to the defeat of the enemy. The Urals became the backbone of both the front and the state.

The event brought together older generations and students—young people who continue the tradition of serving the Motherland. According to the Governor's Office, such gatherings foster a living connection between generations, passing on historical knowledge and a sense of responsibility for the country.

Earlier, Oblastnaya Gazeta reported that the international St. George's Ribbon campaign would run from April 22 to May 9.
