New leadership elected with overwhelming support at party congress
A new leadership team has been elected at the latest party congress. Delegates cast their votes in the morning, with results announced at 2:00 PM. The winning candidates secured strong majorities across all key positions.
The national Political Commission, led by Nuno Melo, won 525 votes in favour. This represented 89.7% of the total, with 41 blank ballots and 19 invalid votes. The outcome closely matched the 2024 congress in Viseu, where the same commission received 89.3% support.
The list of national councilors, headed by former CDS parliamentary leader Nuno Magalhães, gained 529 votes. This equated to 90.4% approval, with 39 blank ballots (6.7%) and 17 invalid votes (2.9%). Other key bodies also saw high approval rates. The National Jurisdictional Council received 542 votes in favour, alongside 32 blank and 11 invalid ballots. The National Oversight Council secured 536 votes, with 34 blank and 15 invalid votes. Meanwhile, the Congress Bureau was elected with 540 votes in favour, 33 blank, and 12 invalid ballots. The National Council Bureau achieved the highest approval, with 536 votes (91.6%) in favour. It received 36 blank ballots and 13 invalid votes.
All elected bodies now take office with clear mandates. The results reflect strong delegate support across the board. The new leadership will guide the party’s direction following this decisive vote.
