Dortmund boy's stolen bike leads to teen arrests after online sale
A 9-year-old boy’s bicycle was stolen near the Bärenbruch sports facility in Dortmund on Tuesday evening. Police later arrested three teenagers after the boy’s father traced the bike to an online seller on Kleinanzeigen. The theft occurred at around 5:20 p.m. when the bike was taken from outside the sports grounds. The victim’s father spotted the stolen bicycle listed for sale on the classifieds platform. He arranged a meeting with the seller, leading to the arrest of two 14-year-olds and a 15-year-old.
During the arrest, officers found knives and screwdrivers on the suspects. Police also seized multiple mobile phones and another bike linked to a separate theft. The teenagers were later released because the legal requirements for pretrial detention were not satisfied. Investigators now suspect the trio may be involved in additional bicycle thefts across the area. The case is still under examination, with authorities exploring possible connections to other crimes. Police are also considering whether the incident should be included in the Dortmund Police Headquarters’ knife-carrying ban initiative.
The three teenagers now face charges of gang theft. The investigation continues as police look into further potential offences. Authorities have not ruled out additional arrests or charges as new evidence emerges.
