Nizhny Novgorod secures 167M rubles for 34 cultural projects in 2026

Thirty-four cultural projects in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region have secured funding from the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives. The second 2026 competition awarded 167 million rubles to local teams. Among the winners, Shahunya stood out with three successful initiatives, placing it ahead of other municipalities in the region. A total of 347 applications poured in from across the region. Municipal cultural institutions submitted 232 proposals, while nonprofits contributed 75 and commercial organisations 40. After review, 34 projects were selected, representing 16 different municipalities, including Voskresensky, Lyskovsky, Pavlovsky, and Gorodets districts.

The funded initiatives cover a wide range of cultural events. Festivals like *Balcony Music: Great Rivers*, *Boldino Winter*, and *Contemporary Music: Shostakovich—Musical Parallels* received support. Theatre and museum projects, such as the *Grand Theater Festival* and *Autumn in Switzerland*, also secured grants. Nationwide, the fund will distribute over 4.1 billion rubles to 725 projects across 87 regions. Nizhny Novgorod ranked among the top regions in terms of approved initiatives. Meanwhile, the next competition for 2027 has already opened, with submissions accepted from April 15 to June 30.

The 34 winning projects will now move forward with their plans, backed by a combined 167 million rubles. Nizhny Novgorod’s strong showing in the competition highlights its active cultural scene. The next round of funding will determine which new initiatives receive support in 2027.
