Nuno Melo re-elected as CDS leader with constitutional reform agenda
Nuno Melo has secured another term as leader of the CDS after winning re-election at the party’s 32nd Congress in Alcobaça. His victory comes as the party reaffirms its alliance with the Social Democratic Party (PSD) while stressing its independent identity. During the congress, Melo made it clear that constitutional reform would be a top priority for the CDS. The party plans to present its own detailed proposal rather than simply aligning with other political groups.
Despite the close working relationship with the PSD, Melo expressed confidence that the CDS would continue to grow as a separate force. He emphasised the need to maintain the party’s distinct voice while cooperating on shared goals.
The CDS now moves forward with Melo at the helm, focusing on its constitutional reform agenda. The party aims to strengthen its position while keeping its partnership with the PSD intact.
