Ölper Lake paths to close next week for critical weir maintenance
A section of Ölper Lake’s surrounding paths will close next week for essential maintenance. Braunschweig Municipal Drainage (SEBS) is set to remove sediment from the overflow weir between the Oker River and the lake. The work begins on May 18 and will last until May 22, affecting both pedestrians and cyclists. Preparatory work has already started at the southeastern end of Ölper Lake. From May 18, SEBS will focus on clearing sediment deposits from the weir connecting the lake to the Oker River. The operation will require heavy machinery and transport routes for the removed material.
During the five-day period, the southern path between Ölper Lake and the Oker River will be fully closed. Pedestrians and cyclists will also be unable to circle the lake, as part of Uferstraße and the access road to Ölper Lake will be used to move the sediment. The closures are temporary but will block key routes around the area. SEBS has requested public patience, acknowledging that the work may cause some disruption. The aim is to restore proper water flow and prevent future blockages in the weir system.
The maintenance work will wrap up by May 22, reopening all paths to the public. Until then, detours will be necessary for those travelling around Ölper Lake. SEBS has assured residents that the temporary closures are essential for maintaining the lake’s drainage infrastructure.
