Organized Thieves Target Excavator Parts in Freiburg Construction Sites
Construction sites across the Freiburg region have faced a wave of thefts in recent weeks. Police are now investigating a series of incidents targeting high-value excavator parts. Authorities suspect an organised group with specialist knowledge is behind the crimes.
Over the past twelve weeks, around ten thefts of PowerTilts and excavator buckets have been reported to Freiburg Police Headquarters. The stolen items—some weighing several hundred kilograms—are precision attachments used in heavy machinery. Investigators believe the thieves used transporters or trailers to move the bulky equipment.
The perpetrators appear to pose as legitimate construction workers, blending in at work sites. This tactic has made them harder to identify. Areas along the Rhine Valley and near major highways have been especially affected. Police are urging the public to report any unusual activity near construction sites, particularly outside normal working hours. Suspicious observations around temporary accommodations or work zones could also provide vital clues.
The investigation remains ongoing, with no documented prevention measures currently in place. Authorities continue to gather information on the organised network believed to be responsible. Anyone with details about the thefts is asked to contact Freiburg Police Headquarters.
