RBB reshapes leadership with seven new executives in major restructuring
Georg Heil has been named the new editor-in-chief of rbb. The Grimme Award winner has served as editorial director of ARD's political magazine Kontraste since 2021 and previously worked as an investigative reporter for the NDR/WDR/Süddeutsche Zeitung research collaboration. In his new role, he will oversee the broadcaster's journalistic quality and editorial direction across all platforms.
Jana Cebulla will take charge of program management, joining rbb from MDR. Torsten Amarell, who has been with rbb since 2020, will lead program development and innovation. Julian Hecker will head the technology and infrastructure division, while Robert Knaack—formerly of Mercedes-Benz Bank—will manage resource planning. Elke Werba will oversee operational affairs, and Silke Borkmann will be responsible for the broadcaster's property strategy.
Commenting on the restructuring, Demmer stated: "Our top priority is journalistic excellence and relevant programming—everything else must serve that mission."
A notable detail: Five of the seven new executives have roots in eastern Germany. The revamped leadership structure aims to streamline decision-making, making rbb more agile, while also reducing off-scale personnel costs in the medium term.
