Bikes in Focus: Statewide Traffic Safety Campaign in Rhineland-Palatinate

Under the slogan "Bikes in Focus," police authorities in Rhineland-Palatinate will conduct a statewide action day on Tuesday (April 28). According to the State Criminal Police Office (LKA), traffic checks will place special emphasis on two-wheeled vehicles.

Rising Accident Risks in Cities

The campaign comes in response to the growing importance of two-wheelers—including bicycles, e-bikes, motorcycles, and e-scooters. In cities like Mainz, an increasing number of road users must share limited space, putting less-protected two-wheeled riders at particular risk. Heavy traffic, poorly designed intersections, and inadequate bike lanes further heighten the danger of serious accidents.

Beyond enforcement, the action day will also feature prevention initiatives. Police experts will engage directly with riders to raise awareness of traffic rules. "Vigilance, mutual consideration, and adherence to road regulations form the foundation of traffic safety," the LKA stated.

The event is part of the nationwide "Safe.Mobile.Life" initiative, launched in 2018 to increase public awareness of the risks associated with two-wheelers and reduce accident rates.
