Roentgen Museum Honored as Rhineland-Palatinate's Final 'Museum of the Month'

The Roentgen Museum in Neuwied has received the prestigious 'Museum of the Month' award for May. The honour comes from the Ministry for Family, Women, Culture, and Integration of Rhineland-Palatinate, along with the Rhineland-Palatinate Museum Association. This marks the final such award of the current state parliament’s legislative term. A celebratory event was held to present the accolade, attended by key figures including District Administrator Achim Hallerbach, museum director Jennifer Stein, and Secretary of State for Culture Professor Dr. Jürgen Hardeck. The museum, one of the oldest and most respected on the Middle Rhine, has long been admired beyond the local area.

Achim Hallerbach highlighted the museum’s ability to blend cultural preservation with modern art and events. He also mentioned future plans, suggesting the potential creation of a Max zu Wied Museum. Jennifer Stein took the opportunity to thank Sparkasse Neuwied for its continued support and stressed the importance of provenance research in maintaining the integrity of the museum’s collections. The Roentgen Museum’s contemporary direction has been shaped by both former director Bernd Willscheid and current director Jennifer Stein. It serves not only as a guardian of the Roentgen legacy but also as a vibrant platform for regional artists.

The award recognises the museum’s dual role in safeguarding heritage while fostering modern creativity. With ongoing support from local partners, the institution continues to strengthen its reputation as a cultural cornerstone. The recognition also comes as the state parliament’s current term draws to a close.
