Russia tightens stadium rules with new fan behavior restrictions
Russia’s parliament has updated the rules for spectators at official sporting events. The changes tighten restrictions on behaviour and what fans can bring into venues. Officials say the new measures aim to improve safety and order.
The amended decree, titled On Approval of the Rules of Conduct for Spectators at Official Sporting Events, introduces stricter controls. Fans are now limited to carrying no more than one litre of non-alcoholic drinks into stadiums. This replaces previous, less specific guidelines.
The updated regulations also ban climbing on any structures within venue grounds. This includes fences, parapets, lighting fixtures, masts, load-bearing supports, and even trees. Violators could face penalties under the new rules. In addition, the decree clarifies where spectators are allowed to stand or sit. Certain areas previously considered grey zones are now explicitly marked as off-limits to the public.
The revised rules set clear limits on liquids and prohibited actions inside sports venues. Authorities have not yet detailed how enforcement will work or what penalties non-compliance may bring. The changes take effect immediately at all official events across the country.
