Russian police seize homemade gun barrel and live ammunition in Primorsky Krai raid
Police have seized a homemade gun barrel and ammunition from a resident of the village of Luchki in Khorol District, Primorsky Krai, the regional press service of the Russian Interior Ministry reported.
"During an investigative operation, officers from Police Division No. 24 of the Khorol District Interior Ministry department discovered and confiscated a package containing a plant-based substance at the man's residence. Further searches in the suspect's apartment uncovered an item resembling a smoothbore hunting rifle, a rifled barrel, and 34 objects appearing to be cartridges for rifled firearms. The suspect was taken to the police station," the statement reads.
Forensic examination confirmed that the barrel had been crudely crafted from a 4.5 mm air rifle barrel and classified as the core component of a rifled firearm. It was found to be functional for installation in a smoothbore shotgun and capable of firing. The cartridges of various calibers were also determined to be intended for combat weapons.
The man explained that he had acquired the weapon parts and ammunition from a fellow villager about 20 years ago and had kept them at home for personal use, with no intention of selling them. He has admitted to the charges.
A criminal case has been opened under Part 1 of Article 222 of the Russian Criminal Code ("Illegal possession of firearm components and ammunition"). The investigation is ongoing. The suspect has been placed under travel restrictions and ordered to maintain proper conduct.
Earlier, the Shkotovo District Court in Primorsky Krai handed down a guilty verdict against a resident of Bolshoy Kamen in a case involving the illegal possession of explosive devices.
