Russia's Nizhny Novgorod Oblast seeks deeper ties with Vietnam through education and trade
Nizhny Novgorod, April 21 – Authorities in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast plan to expand cooperation with Vietnam, with prospects for collaboration discussed at a meeting with Russia's Consul General in Da Nang, Mariya Mizonova. The region has already prepared a comprehensive plan for joint projects.
The talks were initiated by the Oblast Ministry of International and Interregional Relations and included representatives from relevant agencies, as well as educational and cultural institutions in the region.
Olga Guseva, Minister of International and Interregional Relations, noted that cooperation with Da Nang has been ongoing since 1999, when an agreement was signed covering trade, economic, scientific, and cultural exchanges.
According to Guseva, a new program—comprising nearly 40 initiatives across education, science, sports, culture, tourism, IT, and healthcare—has been developed to further strengthen ties. The document has already been submitted to the Vietnamese side for review.
She also emphasized that Vietnam remains a key and promising partner for the region. Over the past 14 years, bilateral trade has grown 7.6-fold.
Educational cooperation is also thriving. Three inter-university agreements are currently in place, and nine Vietnamese students are studying in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast this academic year.
Particular attention was given to collaboration between Nizhny Novgorod's Dobrolyubov State Linguistic University and the Institute of Foreign Languages at Da Nang University. Since 2017, they have implemented joint programs, organized summer schools, and conducted research.
Additionally, the parties discussed youth projects and cultural initiatives. Da Nang expressed interest in hosting Days of Russian Culture, with participation from Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.
