SAP snaps up Dremio and Prior Labs to supercharge AI and data strategy

SAP has bought two more companies to strengthen its position in AI and data management. The German software giant acquired Dremio, an open data lakehouse provider, and Prior Labs, an AI startup focused on structured enterprise data. Both deals aim to help customers move faster from raw data to AI-powered decisions. The purchase of Dremio will allow SAP to consolidate business data—both from SAP and external sources—into a single, open platform. Using the Apache Iceberg format, SAP Business Data Cloud will now support a unified data lakehouse. Philipp Herzig, SAP’s CTO, explained that this move helps customers shift from fragmented data silos to AI-driven insights.

Prior Labs specialises in tabular foundation models, which make structured enterprise data easier to analyse and use. SAP plans to invest €1 billion in the startup over the next four years to accelerate its development. The acquisition follows SAP’s earlier purchase of data management firm Reltio and a strategic partnership with Databricks announced last year. With these acquisitions, SAP is expanding its AI and data capabilities. The integration of Dremio and Prior Labs will provide customers with better tools for managing and extracting value from their data. The company continues to build a more connected and AI-ready business platform.
