Police Officers Frequently Targeted by Attacks - Saxony-Anhalt police face over 1,000 violent attacks in 2023
Police officers in Saxony-Anhalt faced rising threats and violence in 2023. Official figures reveal over a thousand incidents of resistance, aggression, and assaults against law enforcement personnel last year. The data also highlights a worrying number of injuries sustained by officers during routine duties. A total of 1,068 cases involving resistance, aggression, and violent offences against police were recorded in the region. This included 1,050 incidents of resistance against law enforcement, 16 cases of grievous bodily harm, and two robberies targeting officers.
The violence took a physical toll, with 115 officers injured while on duty. Seven of these injuries occurred during domestic violence interventions, while 24 happened during traffic stops or checks. Another 49 officers were hurt during routine patrols. Additionally, one officer suffered serious injuries in a single incident. Beyond physical harm, 33 officers became victims of aggressive or violent crimes throughout the year. The figures underscore the risks faced by police in everyday operations, from patrols to emergency responses.
