Sochi official charged over no-show job for his daughter

A senior official in Sochi is facing criminal charges after allegedly using his position to secure a job for his daughter. The case centres on claims that she received a salary for over a year without performing any work. Authorities have now launched formal proceedings under abuse-of-office laws. The investigation began after reports that the 25-year-old woman had been employed by a private company since July 2025. Despite holding the position, she never carried out any job duties. Her salary payments continued throughout this period.

Officials suspect the father, a high-ranking local figure, pressured the firm to hire his daughter in exchange for favours. Prosecutors argue this arrangement amounted to an abuse of his official powers. The case has been filed under Part 3 of Article 285 of Russia's Criminal Code. The man was taken into custody following a coordinated operation between local police and the regional FSB office. No details have emerged about the daughter's professional background before her alleged employment.

The official now faces a criminal trial over the misuse of his authority. If convicted, he could receive a substantial prison sentence under Russian law. The investigation into the private company's role remains ongoing.
