Suggental's key pedestrian bridge closes for ten days of safety upgrades

A key pedestrian and cycle bridge in Suggental, near Waldkirch, will close for ten days during the Pentecost holidays. The shutdown begins on May 26, 2026, and runs until June 5, 2026, to allow for essential renovation work. The bridge spans the B294 road and the Elz River, serving both walkers and cyclists. During the closure, no one will be able to cross it, as the entire structure will be inaccessible.

The main upgrade involves raising the railing to 1.30 metres. This change aims to improve safety for shared use by pedestrians and cyclists. While the work takes place, cyclists will be rerouted via the signed RadNetzBW bike network.

The bridge will reopen on June 5, 2026, with its higher railings in place. Until then, pedestrians and cyclists must use alternative routes. The upgrades are designed to make the crossing safer for all users.
