Swiss Man Sentenced to Life for Brutal Murder and Dismemberment of Wife
A Swiss court has sentenced Marc Riben to life in prison for the murder of his wife, Kristina Jokimović. The 37-year-old was found guilty of strangling and dismembering the former Miss Switzerland finalist in their home near Basel last February. The case drew widespread attention due to its brutal nature and shocking details.
The trial revealed that Riben killed Jokimović during a violent argument in February 2024. Investigators determined that the murder was premeditated and carried out with exceptional cruelty. The court heard that Riben opposed his wife’s plans to divorce him, which prosecutors believed was the motive behind the killing.
After the attack, Riben took Jokimović’s body to the basement laundry room of their home. There, he used various tools, including a blender, to dismember and pulverise her remains. He was later charged with both murder and desecration of a corpse. The trial took place under tight security, with the public excluded from proceedings due to the disturbing evidence presented. When the verdict was announced, dozens of people gathered outside the courthouse. Jokimović’s father had earlier discovered her remains, leading to Riben’s arrest and subsequent trial.
The life sentence confirms the severity of Riben’s crimes, which included both murder and the desecration of his wife’s body. The case has left a lasting impact on the local community, particularly given Jokimović’s public profile as a former beauty pageant finalist. Authorities have not indicated any plans for further legal action at this time.
