Trial over Attack on 81-Year-Old - Murder Attempt with Cable - Trial begins for brutal Hamburg home invasion that nearly killed 81-year-old

A trial has started at Hamburg Regional Court over a violent home invasion in August 2021. Three men attacked an 81-year-old resident in Hamburg-Eißendorf, leaving him severely injured. The victim was beaten, robbed, and nearly killed during the early-morning assault. The attack began at 8:30 a.m. on August 30, 2021, when the elderly man opened his door expecting his gardener. Instead, three assailants forced their way inside. The victim was immediately struck in the face, knocked to the ground, and had a burlap sack pulled over his head.

The attackers then strangled him and attempted to hang him with an electrical cable. Despite his age, the victim fought back, screaming for help when he heard noises at the front door. His cries caused the men to flee before completing the act. Before escaping, the trio stole €1,800 from the victim’s wallet in the basement. They had demanded gold, silver, and more cash during the assault. The victim was left with multiple head injuries, bruising, ligature marks, and intense pain, requiring hospital treatment. The defendants—two 25-year-olds and a 45-year-old from Brandenburg—are all German nationals. The older suspect had previously worked as the victim’s gardener.

The trial will examine the events of that morning, including the victim’s resistance and the attackers’ failed attempt to kill him. The court will also review the injuries sustained and the financial losses suffered by the elderly man.
