Two AfD councillors quit party amid internal conflicts in Salzgitter
The AfD’s city council faction in Salzgitter has shrunk after two members left the party. Thomas-Peter Disselhoff and Jörg Bogun now sit as independents. The pair have vowed to resist any attempts to undermine their roles as councillors. Jörg Bogun stepped down from the AfD’s Lower Saxony state association, citing deep internal conflicts. His departure followed ongoing disagreements within the party.
Thomas-Peter Disselhoff faced a separate setback when the AfD’s state arbitration tribunal revoked his membership. In response, he filed an appeal with the party’s federal arbitration court.
Both councillors have made it clear they will not tolerate interference or hostility affecting their work. Their names have already been updated in the municipal information system to reflect their independent status.
The AfD faction has hinted at more unexpected announcements. These are expected to be revealed at the next city council meeting on February 25. The two former AfD members remain active in Salzgitter’s council but now operate without party affiliation. Their decisions follow a period of internal strife within the AfD. Further details are set to emerge at the upcoming council session.
