U.S. to Hold Historic Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 2025
For the first time in history, the United States will be formally consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The ceremony, led by U.S. bishops, is scheduled for June 11, 2025. People across the country will be able to watch the event live via the USCCB website. The devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus dates back centuries, with early traces appearing in the second century. More recently, Pope Francis reignited interest in the practice through his 2024 encyclical, Dilexit Nos. Now, American bishops are bringing this tradition to the national level.
The consecration aims to place the U.S. under Christ’s kingship and God’s providence. It also seeks to make amends for historical wrongs committed against God and the heart of Christ. Another key focus is fostering greater compassion for the poor and those in need. Archbishop Alexander K. Sample has urged local communities, families, and dioceses to join in the consecration. To support participation, the USCCB will provide resources, including a dedicated prayer, a Novena, and materials for parishes to use in their own ceremonies.
The June 11 event marks a significant moment in American Catholic history. It will be the first time the entire nation is consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The ceremony, along with its accompanying resources, is designed to deepen faith and encourage acts of mercy across the country.
