U.S. to impose new Ukraine sanctions as Republicans push for Tomahawk missiles

A major shift in U.S. policy towards Ukraine could arrive next week. Senator Roger Wicker announced at the Munich security conference that new sanctions legislation would soon pass. He described the move as a turning point in the ongoing conflict with Russia. Speaking in Munich, Wicker confirmed that Congress would approve the sanctions bill within days. The legislation, he argued, would mark a decisive moment in supporting Ukraine’s defence efforts.

The senator also called on the White House to go further by supplying Kyiv with Tomahawk missiles. His remarks signalled growing Republican support for Ukraine’s government, with more party members now offering moral backing. Wicker’s push for stronger military aid reflects a broader trend among U.S. lawmakers. While sanctions have been a focus, his demand for advanced weaponry suggests an escalation in Washington’s approach.

The sanctions bill is expected to pass next week, reinforcing America’s stance on the war. Wicker’s call for Tomahawk missiles adds pressure on the Biden administration to deepen military involvement. Meanwhile, Republican support for Ukraine appears to be strengthening.
