Uttar Pradesh braces for extreme heatwave as IMD issues Orange Alert
Uttar Pradesh is bracing for a severe heatwave, with temperatures set to climb by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert, warning of extreme conditions across several districts from May 19 to 21. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered the administration to stay on high alert. All District Magistrates, along with the Health and Power Departments, must ensure preparedness for the rising temperatures. He has also directed relief agencies to take immediate action.
Public places will receive uninterrupted drinking water and electricity. Government hospitals have been instructed to stock essential medicines, reserve beds, and keep doctors and ambulances ready for heatstroke cases. Special monitoring has been ordered in districts most vulnerable to the heatwave. The Chief Minister has urged residents to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak heat hours. His appeal comes as the state prepares for the most intense period of the heatwave over the next three days.
The state’s response focuses on preventing heat-related illnesses and ensuring critical services remain available. Hospitals, power supplies, and emergency teams are all on standby as Uttar Pradesh faces the upcoming surge in temperatures. Authorities will continue monitoring the situation closely until conditions improve.
