Valery Borshchov, champion of Russian democracy and human rights, dies at 82
Valery Borshchov, a renowned journalist and human rights advocate, has passed away at the age of 82. Borshchov, who worked for Komsomolskaya Pravda in the 1960s, was also a co-founder of the political party 'Democratic Russia' during Perestroika and served as a State Duma deputy.
Throughout his life, Borshchov was deeply committed to human rights. He co-founded the Christian Democratic Party during Perestroika and worked closely with international human rights organizations. Borshchov was known for his tireless efforts to advocate for the interned and the missing.
Even after his retirement from politics, Borshchov remained active in the Yabloko movement's bureau until his death. His contributions to journalism and human rights were recognized with the Union of Russian Journalists' highest award, the 'Honor, Dignity, Professionalism' badge, just a year before his passing.
