Vechelde student startup wins statewide business contest with recycled nets

A student company from Vechelde has won first place in a statewide business competition. netbag, based at Julius-Spiegelberg-Gymnasium, triumphed at the IW JUNIOR state contest in Hanover. The team will now advance to the national finals in Cologne next month. The winning team, netbag, creates bags and accessories using recycled ghost nets. Their sustainable approach impressed judges at the event. The competition, held in Hanover, was backed by the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Cover-Guard, another team from the Peine district, secured second place. Their product—a protective camera cover for educational tablets—stood out for its practical design. Social Buddies, an app connecting social service providers, took third. Miriam Reitz, managing director of IW JUNIOR gGmbH, highlighted the competition’s role in helping students explore their skills and gain real-world experience. Grant Hendrik Tonne, Lower Saxony’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Transport, and Housing, commended all participants for their creativity. The ministry provides funding for IW JUNIOR projects across the state.

netbag will represent Lower Saxony at the national finals on June 16. The team’s success follows months of development and competition. Their progress reflects the broader support for student entrepreneurship in the region.
