Vietnam and UNDP Partner to Strengthen Ethnic Rights and Global Integration by 2045

The Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs of Vietnam and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote sustainable, equitable development and international integration in ethnic affairs. The MoU, signed for the period 2025 to 2030 with a vision towards 2045, aims to enhance the effectiveness of state management in ethnic affairs and reinforce a shared vision of inclusive development and protection of ethnic minority rights nationwide.

The MoU establishes a strategic cooperation framework aligned with Vietnam's national target programmes and sustainable development goals. Both parties agreed to cooperate in various areas, including livelihood and entrepreneurship support, raising awareness of international integration, green and circular economy development, and digital transformation. The cooperation also covers increasing the participation of ethnic minority communities in public leadership, environmental protection, climate change adaptation, and promoting Vietnam's achievements in ethnic affairs to the international community.

The MoU is based on principles of equality, respect, and non-legally binding cooperation. It will facilitate regular information exchange and consultation, as well as coordination in organising conferences, workshops, training sessions, and communication activities. Deputy Minister of Ethnic and Religious Affairs Y Thong highlighted that the MoU demonstrates Vietnam's proactiveness and responsibility in sharing practical experience in ethnic affairs and promoting dialogue, understanding, and cooperation for sustainable, humane development.

The MoU marks a promising phase in the long-standing and effective cooperation between UNDP and the Vietnamese Government. It aims to promote comprehensive international integration and ensure significant progress in ethnic affairs by 2045. The partnership will focus on implementing the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD) and engaging with other international human rights mechanisms.
