Violent brawl at Berlin pool forces early closure and police probe
A fight broke out at an outdoor swimming pool in Berlin’s Gropiusstadt neighbourhood on Wednesday evening. The clash involved two brothers and a group of around 20 young people. It began as a verbal argument before turning violent.
The trouble started at about 6:15 p.m. near the pool on Lipschitzallee. A heated exchange between the two brothers, aged 14 and 15, and the larger group quickly escalated. Witnesses reported that the brothers were punched in the face during the confrontation.
Both the youths and the injured brothers left the scene before police and paramedics arrived. Officers later located the siblings near the pool complex with visible facial injuries. After speaking with their parents, the brothers refused medical attention. The incident caused significant disruption, prompting staff to close the pool early due to overcrowding. Berlin police have since launched an investigation into possible charges, including breach of the peace and grievous bodily harm. The case is now being handled by a specialist unit under Directorate 5 (City).
The pool was shut ahead of schedule following the disturbance. Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the fight. No arrests have been reported so far.
