Viral video falsely links Ganesh Chaturthi clip to Delhi's Eid tensions
A video showing crowds with saffron flags dancing near a mosque has gone viral with false claims. The clip was shared as proof of Holi celebrations during Eid in Delhi's Uttam Nagar on 21 March 2026. In reality, the footage is from a Ganesh Chaturthi event in Karnataka over a year earlier.
The misleading post has spread widely, despite clear evidence disproving its claims. Authorities and fact-checkers have confirmed the video's true origin and date.
The viral video first appeared on DJ Sonu Gulbarga's account on 23 September 2024. It captured celebrations from Raichur, Karnataka, during Ganesh Chaturthi. The original caption clearly identified it as a Ganesh Chaturthi programme.
Later, the same footage was falsely repurposed to claim it showed Holi celebrations on Eid in Uttam Nagar, Delhi. Eid-ul-Fitr in 2026 was observed on 20-21 March, while Holi took place on 4 March that year. No such incident occurred in Uttam Nagar during Eid, and the area remained peaceful under heavy security. A separate, unrelated incident did happen during Holi in Uttam Nagar. A 26-year-old man named Tarun died following a dispute. However, this event had no connection to the viral video or its false claims. Fact-checkers verified that the video's location, date, and context were all misrepresented. The original event was a religious celebration in Karnataka, not a communal clash in Delhi.
The claim that the video shows Holi celebrations on Eid in Uttam Nagar has been debunked. The footage is from a 2024 Ganesh Chaturthi event in Raichur, Karnataka, and has no link to Delhi.
Eid in Uttam Nagar passed without any such incident, and the video's false framing has been exposed. Authorities have confirmed the facts, putting an end to the misleading narrative.
