Vodafone appoints Olaf Koch as Non-Executive Director in 2026 board reshuffle
Vodafone Group Plc has announced the appointment of Olaf Koch as a Non-Executive Director, effective after the 2026 AGM. The move comes alongside changes to the board, including the retirement of Maria Amparo Moraleda Martinez. Koch will join the executive team in supporting CEO Margherita Della Valle and driving the company’s strategic vision.
His appointment is subject to shareholder approval and follows a career spanning senior roles at major corporations, including Daimler and Metro AG.
Olaf Koch brings extensive leadership experience to Vodafone. From 2011 to 2021, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Metro AG, where he led a significant transformation of the business. Earlier in his career, he founded and later sold an IT networks company.
Before joining Metro, Koch held key positions at Daimler, including leading Corporate e-Business and overseeing Finance, Controlling and Strategy at Mercedes-Benz Cars. Currently, he serves as a shareholder representative on the Supervisory Board of Mercedes-Benz Group AG. There, he chairs both the Audit Committee and the Legal Affairs Committee. The announcement also marks the departure of Maria Amparo Moraleda Martinez, who will retire from the board at the 2026 AGM. She will step down as Non-Executive Director, Chair of the Remuneration Committee, and Chair of the ESG Committee. Taking over her roles, Christine Ramon will become Chair of the Remuneration Committee, while Anne-Françoise Nesmes will lead the ESG Committee. Jean-François van Boxmeer, Vodafone’s Chair, welcomed Koch’s appointment and expressed gratitude for Moraleda Martinez’s contributions during her tenure.
Koch’s arrival will see him working closely with the executive team to shape Vodafone’s future direction. The changes to the Remuneration and ESG Committees will take effect immediately after the 2026 AGM. Shareholders will vote on his appointment before the transition is finalised.
