Crime trends in Vorpommern-Greifswald showed mixed results in 2025. While overall reported offenses fell slightly, certain categories—such as sexual crimes and bicycle thefts—saw noticeable increases. Police also recorded a significant drop in violent crimes against life, alongside a near-perfect clearance rate for these cases. The district experienced a 2.2% reduction in total reported crimes last year. However, sexual offenses climbed by 14.4%, though authorities maintained a high clearance rate of 89.2% for these cases.

Violent crimes against life, including homicide and manslaughter, plummeted by 62.5%. Only six such incidents occurred in 2025, all of which were solved. Meanwhile, general violent crimes, such as assault and robbery, remained unchanged from the previous year. Theft offenses rose modestly by 5.4%, but bicycle thefts surged by 22.2%. On Usedom island, cases jumped from 1,013 in 2024 to 1,238 in 2025, with losses totalling €1.32 million—mostly high-value e-bikes. The spike contrasted with neighbouring Brandenburg, where thefts hit a 30-year low. Overall, the clearance rate for all crimes in Vorpommern-Greifswald stayed steady at 64.4% in 2025.

The data reveals a drop in total crime but highlights rising concerns over sexual offenses and bicycle thefts. Police solved every violent crime against life, yet the sharp increase in stolen bikes—particularly on Usedom—points to a persistent challenge. Authorities will likely focus on these areas in the coming year.
