20-year-old driver stopped for suspected drug impairment in Wesseln

A 20-year-old driver was stopped by police in Wesseln early on 7 February 2026. Officers suspected he was unfit to drive due to impairment. The incident occurred on Steinbeek Street at around 2:55 a.m. A police patrol from Bad Salzdetfurth pulled over a Volkswagen Polo. The driver, who held a provisional licence, showed clear signs of impairment. This raised suspicions under Section 316 of the German Criminal Code.

The driver tested positive for THC in a urine test. Police prohibited him from continuing his journey and took him to a station for a blood sample. Criminal proceedings have now been initiated against him. Under German law, driving under the influence of drugs can lead to a fine or up to one year in prison. The case will proceed through the legal system. The driver remains under investigation for the offence.
