State Party Manager Dismissed as AfD Faces Internal Doubts Over Election Candidate List

The Alternative for Germany (AfD) in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has dismissed its state managing director, Janine Korth. Leif-Erik Holm, the state party chair, confirmed the termination was carried out with proper notice, though he declined to discuss the matter further. "I ask for your understanding that I do not wish to spark public debate on this," he stated. According to broadcaster NDR, Korth is contesting her dismissal. She was unavailable for comment to the German Press Agency (dpa).

Meanwhile, the AfD is facing internal criticism over the selection of its state candidate list for September's regional election. Holm acknowledged receiving a letter from a party member addressed to the state electoral officer, raising concerns about the nomination process. "To my knowledge, no formal objection has been filed," he said, adding that the state executive board would address the issue.

NDR reports that the dispute stems from the AfD's Rostock district branch being entirely excluded from the candidate list during the party's nomination convention on January 24 in Neubrandenburg. None of the top 35 candidates hail from the state's economic hub and largest city.
