Aldi Süd slashes 1,250 HQ jobs in major IT restructuring move

Aldi Süd is eliminating 1,250 positions at its headquarters in Mülheim an der Ruhr. The majority of the reductions will affect the digital division, Aldi DX, where more than 1,000 jobs are set to be cut.

However, no layoffs for operational reasons are planned. Instead, employees will be offered severance packages to encourage voluntary departures.

In recent years, Aldi Süd had expanded its IT division to over 4,000 employees at its peak. To enhance its appeal as an employer, the discounter even established a dedicated subsidiary, Aldi DX, in November 2024.

The core mission of Aldi DX is to create a standardized global IT infrastructure across all markets under the project name "AHEAD"—an initiative that began many years ago.

Going forward, Aldi Süd will execute IT projects with significantly fewer in-house staff. Instead, the company is outsourcing a portion of its technological operations.

In November 2025, Indian IT services provider Tata Consultancy Services announced plans to significantly expand its partnership with Aldi Süd. Abhijit Niyogi, a manager at Tata, outlined the project's objectives: "We will simplify and modernize Aldi Süd's technology landscape, enhance operational efficiency, and enable the company to respond agilely to evolving market demands," he said.

The international procurement division of Aldi Süd will also be affected by the job cuts. Aldi International Services encompasses cross-divisional functions managed by the group's holding company in Salzburg.
