Russian Party Proposes Commemorative Plaque at 79 Masanchy Street

Almaty considers plaque honoring Vladimir Zhirinovsky's birthplace ahead of 80th anniversary

The initiative coincides with Vladimir Zhirinovsky's birthday. Leonid Leonov stated that the visit to the house holds symbolic significance ahead of what would have been the politician's 80th birthday.

"A plaque on the building's facade could note that Vladimir Zhirinovsky was born here," he said.

Leonov believes this would raise awareness of the site and the early years of the politician's life.

For now, the proposal remains just that—a suggestion from the Russian party. No official decision to install the plaque in Almaty has been announced.

Earlier, Russian media reported that monuments to Zhirinovsky could be unveiled in several Russian cities in 2026, along with a "memorial event and solemn dedication of a monument in his hometown"—Almaty.

However, Almaty's city administration has stated that there are no plans to erect a monument to the late founder of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) in the city.

Zhirinovsky, a prominent Russian politician, was born in Almaty on April 25, 1946, and died on April 6, 2022, at the age of 75. On November 6, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree declaring state-level celebrations for Zhirinovsky's 80th anniversary in 2026.
