A suspected arson attack on a railway cable duct has caused major train disruptions around Viersen in the Lower Rhine region. The fire, discovered near Viersen station on Sunday evening, is believed to have been set deliberately. Authorities are now investigating the incident as a case of intentional arson.

The Mönchengladbach Police confirmed the fire broke out at approximately 6:30 PM on November 30, 2025. Investigators found evidence suggesting the cables were intentionally set alight. So far, no suspects have been identified, and the motive remains unclear.

Multiple regional train services and freight routes have been severely affected. Some trains are terminating early, while others have been rerouted to avoid the damaged area. Passengers travelling between Viersen and Krefeld must now use replacement buses until further notice.

The disruption continues as police work to determine who was responsible for the fire. Until repairs are completed, train services in the area will remain limited. Commuters are advised to check for updates before travelling.
