Astana's Baiqonyr district unveils three newly upgraded courtyards for summer
Three courtyards in Astana’s Baiqonyr district have just received a fresh upgrade. The work wrapped up in time for summer and aligned with the area’s annual Courtyard Day festivities. Local officials say this is part of a wider push to improve public spaces across the neighbourhood. The latest renovations focused on three locations: 16 and 18 Republic Avenue, and 18 Otyrar Street. Each site now features new children’s playgrounds, outdoor fitness stations, and decorative architectural elements. Fresh asphalt was also laid to improve walkways and access.
Over the past three years, the district has overhauled more than 200 of its 252 courtyards. The effort reflects a long-term plan to modernise shared spaces for residents. Talgat Rakhmanberdi, the district’s akim, recently announced further upgrades for 2026—20 courtyards will be fully renovated, while 50 others will undergo repairs. The completed projects arrive just as summer begins, giving families and visitors updated spaces to enjoy. With most courtyards now refurbished, the district’s focus shifts to maintaining and expanding these improvements. Officials have already set targets for the next phase of work in two years’ time.
