B64 crash leaves two injured after truck and car veer into ditch
Höxter (our platform)
A serious traffic accident on the B64 between Höxter and Godelheim left a hazardous goods truck carrying carbon dioxide and a VW Golf in a roadside ditch. The trapped driver of the Golf had to be freed by firefighters, and the B64 remained closed for hours during the complex recovery operation.
On the evening of Thursday, March 26, around 7 p.m., a 27-year-old woman was driving her VW Golf on the B64 from Höxter toward Godelheim. Near the Godelheim lakes, she first veered left out of her lane, sideswiping an oncoming truck before crashing into the left-side ditch and hitting a tree. The approaching hazardous goods truck was loaded with a carbon dioxide tank. The 36-year-old truck driver attempted to avoid a collision by swerving left but also ended up in the ditch. The tractor unit was severely damaged, though the trailer's tank remained largely intact, preventing any gas leakage. The driver, from the Koblenz region, sustained minor injuries.
The VW driver, from the Siegen-Wittgenstein district, suffered serious injuries and was trapped in her vehicle, requiring firefighters to use hydraulic rescue tools to free her. She was then taken to a hospital, with no immediate risk to her life. Her car was declared a total loss.
The truck and trailer had to be lifted from the ditch using two specialized cranes before being towed away. The road was closed to traffic for approximately seven hours during the accident investigation and recovery efforts.
Authorities suspect a medical issue may have contributed to the 27-year-old driver's loss of control. The total damage is estimated at around €50,000.
