Lünen Women's Week 2026 Celebrates 40 Years of Gender Equality Milestones
Under the theme "40 Years of Municipal Gender Equality in Lünen: Where We Come From. Where We Stand. Where We're Headed," the city of Lünen invites the public to Lünen Women's Week from March 8 to 13. The Office for Gender Equality and Women's Affairs will reflect on four decades of dedicated equality work while also looking ahead to future challenges and opportunities.
Kickoff on International Women's Day
The week begins on Sunday, March 8, with an "Anniversary Matinee for International Women's Day" at the Gahmen Civic Center. Attendees can expect an inspiring morning featuring expert insights, live music, and opportunities for discussion. In the afternoon, the "Lünen Girls' & Women's Walk & Talk" will follow—a communal walk designed to foster networking and connection.
Women in Skilled Trades and Intercultural Exchange
On Monday, March 9, the Lippe Vocational College will host the opening of the photo exhibition "Strong Women. Strong Craftsmanship." Organized in collaboration with the Women and Careers Network in Unna District and the Dortmund Chamber of Skilled Crafts, the exhibition highlights women in the trades, showcasing their strength, diversity, and professionalism.
An intercultural iftar for women on Tuesday, March 10, at the Selimiye Mosque will provide a space for meaningful exchange, dialogue, and mutual understanding in an atmosphere of respect.
Central Anniversary Event at City Hall
The week's highlight is the central anniversary celebration on Wednesday, March 11, in the City Hall foyer. Featuring a keynote address, conversations with former staff, musical performances, and a closing reception, the event will reflect on 40 years of municipal gender equality efforts while outlining future goals.
Film Night and Women's History Tour
A women's film night on Thursday, March 12, at the Persiluhr Meeting Point will explore the experiences of women in patriarchal societies, addressing themes of self-determination and equal rights.
The week concludes on Friday, March 13, with the guided tour "Traces of Women: Notable Women in Lünen's History." The walk shines a light on influential female figures from the city's past and their enduring contributions.
