Driver fined €320 for speeding past schoolchild at 103 km/h

A car speeding at 103 km/h in a 50 km/h zone overtakes a schoolchild walking along the edge of the road. That was the scene yesterday around 12:30 p.m. on Ebbetalstraße, where traffic officers were conducting speed checks near the Oestertalsperre dam. A child who had just stepped off a school bus was walking between the guide posts at the roadside when the driver raced past at more than double the limit.
Police have issued an explicit warning about excessive speed, a leading cause of traffic accidents. In this case, the driver faces a fine of €320, two penalty points, and a one-month driving ban—though prior offenses could result in even harsher consequences. He is one of three motorists caught in yesterday's checks near the Oestertalsperre who now face a driving ban. Out of 489 vehicles monitored, 65 drivers will receive warning notices and 36 will be fined, meaning one in five was speeding. To combat this hazard, daily controls will continue in the future.
In a separate incident overnight into Thursday, unknown perpetrators forced open the door of a business on Am Wasserwerk street and stole tools from the premises. Criminal police are now investigating. Anyone with information about suspicious activity is asked to contact Plettenberg police at 02391 91990.
